Legacy of War takes place after World War II. Even though this is in fact the 19th book in a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone, as I have not previously read anything else by this author yet.

The story takes place all over the world, from London to Kenya to Spain. It follows a couple - she a past British spy with kills under her belt, and he a German who was a prisoner of war in a Nazi camp. They are both still fighting Nazis in that they are trying to locate his evil brother and his wife.

Also going on in Kenya is the battle between landowners and the workers - there is a lot of strife and resentment from the natives towards the white landowners that led to a lot of very graphic scenes.

I thought the characters were fascinating and the author provides enough background to allow this book to stand alone. I also enjoy the fight against the nazis still.
