The cover definitely did not pull me in. What intrigued me is that the author is critically acclaimed for a previous novel, and in my experience - that is mostly a good sign.
From the first chapter, I can't say it hooked me, but I am interested about Lucas Blackthorn. Maya, however, I didn't connect with yet - for all I care, she could just be a non-character narrator.
