A Homerun Hit of a Book !
Start this book when you have a few extra hours because you are not going to set it down. Evander Mills may proclaim himself to be a has-been tough guy, but his first-person narration grabs your attention and makes you turn pages just as fast as you can. The author weaves important details in with punch: Setting? Evander reflects on finding a dead body on the beach near San Francisco. Character traits? Evander does not like bullies and intervenes in a possible lovers' quarrel by grabbing an abusive guy in a dingy bar. But it's early afternoon on a Monday and Evander already feels his liquor. And then? Readers learn about his past escapades that sent his career spiraling out of control and created a name for himself in the LGBTQ community. I definitely must read this contemporary who-done-it mystery.
