The first chapter is a bit overwhelming because you are introduced to several characters at once. However, the story is absolutely beautiful! So this book takes place in Minnesota during mid spring. It follows Alpo, who I am guessing in his 60s, his son Pete and Alpos fiance, Sissy who is a few years older than Pete. Pete is a recovering alcholic, a divorced father of 2 girls and a vet. You follow him while he struggles with his alcoholism. You also follow Alpo and Sissy who are planning their wedding. Sissy is dealing with a lot of issues with her mother. Alpo is dealing with grief from his deceased wife. Then theres Rauri. He is a bit of a hermit who lives on an island that gets iced in every winter. The town sort of uses him as a sign of spring coming. When he shows up in town, they know the ice pack has thawed and spring is here. When he doesn't show up, the town goes into a bit of panic mode. If i could live in a book, i would choose this book! Between the characters to the descriptions of the scenery, i fell head over heels.
