Charming characterization with a hometown feel.

Although I have not read Vacationland, the first novella in the Northern trilogy, this is an interesting first look at a distinctive and eccentric cast of character from a remote town in Minnesota. The novella opens at with a discussion about the unknown circumstances surrounding Rauri Paar, an event which appears to influence the lives and upcoming events surrounding the local townspeople. This novel captures that hometown feel of the rural Midwest as it explores the intricate and complex lives of its residents.
