So I’m going to preface this by saying that true crime is not usually a genre I read often but the premise of this book was intriguing. While the book was definitely educational and I learned a lot about the challenges and persecution LGBTQ people faced during that time period, the true crime aspect didn’t work for me. There was a lot of procedural talk and terms I just didn’t understand. As a whole it seemed a bit disjointed and didn’t flow well. I did like the maps because being from the NJ area I knew many of the places referred to in the book. The maps gave more context to the crimes. This is also a dark book, the serial killer, like all serial killers is brutal. It’s super gory and at times very difficult to read. I do think it’s an important book to read though because it is very educational regarding how horrible it was for LGBTQ people. Unfortunately, just wasn’t the book for me.
