I am a sucker for true crime! And reading the summary the author wraps the reader in so quickly. True crime too often focuses on the "bad guys".... In Last Call, instead foregrounds the known victims. He shows us the people they were and the lives they left behind. He talks about how their lives matter. Homophobia isn't always something we hear written about, especially the crimes where they are victims. Where people are avoiding the subject, the author is facing [writing] about it head on and lets the readers get inside the lives of these victims and the terrible things that happen to them. He brings a humanity to the subject in his writing to allow the readers to feel and not just read through. Anyone who gives an underrated topic a voice is someone I am willing to purchase a book from so that the topic gets heard and no longer is being hidden behind .
