True Crime Narrative and History blended for a gripping read

Be prepared for a gripping journey involving horrific and sadistic crimes targeted against a tight knit community. Fortunately, dogged determination by some investigators and enhanced forensics led to solving some of the murders - but it took a decade to do so. After I read the gut-wrenching book by Carter Sickel (The Prettiest Star), I felt I had a better understanding of the discrimination and judgment gay men experienced during the 80s & 90s and the height of the AIDS epidemic. I was not aware of the harrowing existence many experienced in which the Last Call Killer systematically hunted and killed his prey, along with the lack of attention and effort in solving those crimes. Green does provide a compassionate glimpse into the lives of the victims and captures the history and culture of the vibrant gay community in New York and surrounding states.
