I have seen Last Call reviews all over Bookstagram. With such a hard hitting topic on real life events, I tried to go in as neutral as possible. My only hope for Last Call was to ensure the victims were known more than just victims. So many times, the murderers are known, those are the names we remember. Thankfully, Last Call was beautifully written with such respect towards the victims that I believe it lived up to its hype.

I think Elon Green painted the picture so vividly and really helped me understand the circumstances and the climate during these killings. I didn’t know what NYC 92 was like. Hell, I don’t even know what USA in 92 was like, I was in a different country! I became angry and frustrated reading the basic mistreatment so blatant and almost second nature.

This is very heavily detailed, as much true crime is. However, we get to really know the victims. These details and stories are all that’s left, short of a memory, of them.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I did have to break it up a bit as it was so detailed and I was frustrated by the overshadowing of such an important event. I cried. I know I do that a lot, but this just hit me a bit hard. I cried. Thank you Celadon and Bookish First for the gifted copy! Last Call is out March 9th.
