This is the true story of the Last Call Killer who preyed upon the gay community of New York City in the 1990s.

I'm a bit mixed on this one. I appreciated learning about this crime since I hadn't heard of it before and it shines a light on the severe mistreatment of the gay community in the 80s and 90s. The book is equally about the victims and their stories as well as the manhunt for the killer, and provides social commentary on gay rights, hate crimes, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

I didn't love the writing though—the beginning was very dense and there were a lot of anecdotes throughout that weren't really relevant and distracted from the story. The story picked up about halfway through as the crimes were linked and suspects were assessed, and I liked learning about their methods to extract fingerprints from the evidence. It wrapped up pretty quick in the end and would have appreciated more detail and closure on the legal proceedings.

If you're a true crime fan I recommend checking this one out!
