I received this ARC for any honest review. I was really looking forward to reading this book but was pretty disappointed when I finally read it. It is labeled as a true crime novel about the Last Call Killer but really it is a nonfiction book about the history of gay New York. It really is just the gay history of NY with a murder investigation woven in now and then. As another reviewer said there is way TOO much info given. The history of every gay bar or person in the least bit associated to it is given. It is just way too much insignificant facts given for a book that is supposed to be about a serial killer and those details and facts are like very small portions of the book. I skimmed and skipped pages to get to less tedious parts and I've never skipped pages before. Also there were pages that I suppose are going to have maps or pictures on them but were blank on this ARC so i do not know if that would of made the read better. Being a gay man from WNY I find it interesting but that's not what i was expecting to read. I was looking forward to a true crime story and got a overly detailed history lesson instead. A good book if that's what you want to read about.
