When I am not reading or working, you will find me watching true crime shows like Dateline or Snapped. I love that stuff and am currently watching Night Stalker on Netflix (don’t judge me)!

So, when I was sent the ARC for Last Call, I put everything aside to read it. A book setup like an episode of Dateline? Yes, please!!

This is supposed to be the story of a serial killer making his way through New York in the 90’s. Unfortunately, it is muddled with history of the AIDS epidemic and gay life. I’m not saying those things aren’t interesting... they just kind of ruin the whole storytelling component of the main topic.

These were horrifying, gory, sadistic crimes, which is why I can’t believe I had never heard of the Last Call killer before! And like almost every serial killer, the clues, the warning signs, the answers were all there, but without evidence, it was impossible to pin it on their guy until years later when clearer forensics became available.

I enjoyed reading this, but I was so disappointed that there is no explanation, and no closure whatsoever from the guilty party (he refuses to talk).
