Last Call details the killings of a number of gay men who were brutally murdered by a serial killer during the 80's and 90's. These types of crimes should have garnered front page headlines and constant attention from the media and police. Unfortunately, due to a social climate that tended to vilify or neglect the gay community this did not happen. Elon Green makes sure that the victims of this tragedy are not forgotten. Instead of focusing on the killer, as many true crime stories do, Green gives the reader a detailed look at the gay community as a whole, the victims and their lives before they were killed. He He also provides a comprehensive look at how other background factors like the AIDS epidemic, hate crimes against gay men, and a pervasive feeling of homophobia play a role in this story. From a true crime perspective, I would definitely recommend this book, I found it extremely well written and informative.
