This novel was heartbreaking. I thought I knew a lot about true crime, but every time I hear a story like this, I reconsider. I listen to a lot of true-crime podcasts, love watching documentaries on cases both solved and unsolved, and generally try to learn as much as I can about true crime. In all of that, I still had never heard of the Last Call Killer.
Elon Green does an amazing job at shedding light on this forgotten serial killer. Swept under the rug because the victims were gay, the horrors that are the crimes of the Last Call Killer have been hidden for far too long. I'm glad Green is trying to help these victims gain attention decades after their murders.
As for the writing, this novel was such a quick read. Green does a very good job of fitting these crimes into a narrative story. It was an easy read difficulty-wise, while the content still hit home. A great read overall.
