Beautifully haunting
As the author comments in the epilogue, he sought to do right by the queer community and tell a story that had long since been forgotten by most. The primary theme of the book is the investigation into the identity of a serial killer targeting gay men in New York City and finding justice for the victims. The book also gives a history of the powerful role piano bars played in the culture of gay community. They were a safe haven in a community that often remained hidden due to fear of judgment or persecution, particularly as the AIDS/HIV epidemic began to grow. Thus making The Last Caller killer all the more sinister and cruel.
I highly recommend this book and the author did an amazing job detailing the lives of the 4 victims, as well as lying out evidence and a history of violence on the part of the murderer. Well written, well researched, and I’m so grateful I was able to read this story.
