It’s not often that I read nonfiction that is filled with nail-biting horror, detailed research, and a dedication to shining a searing yet empathetic light on social inequalities that still haunt us today. It’s a difficult balance to get right, but Last Call accomplishes deftly juggling the horrors of the past in these true crimes and the way that they still linger in society today, even after the great strides in LGBTQIA+ rights. It’s only through learning about haunting incidents like these that we can heal in the present. This book will linger with me long after I’ve read it, I’m sure.
