I vaguely remember this when it happened back in the early 90s. I was a young teen (barely 13), but I remember the time period. AIDS was still a relatively unknown disease, although more was being learned each day. Many still considered it to be a "Gay Cancer" although America was learning it affected everyone, as Ryan White proved.
As this was a case I remember, originally not being cared about too much because it was targeting gay men (and remember, back in the early 90s, being gay was a huge taboo). I did have one teacher who was very passionate about it and occasionally brought it up in class, asking us why we didn't think it was more of a "bigger story".
Its almost exactly 30 years later from the first body being discovered and finally its getting the attention it deserves.
