This was a captivating, debut collection of short stories that gives the reader a wide snapshot of everyday life in China or that of a Chinese immigrant.
I was fascinated by all of these stories, some more than others, but nonetheless intrigued by the flawed characters and the everyday decisions they made.
I felt so many emotions while reading these stories - some due to how relatable these stories were while others spotlighted the injustices and cruelties that Chinese citizens face. It really shows how the government can greatly influence life's trajectory, simply by not allowing you to truly be free, either in fact or in appearance.
This one will stay with you and open your eyes the world around you. I'm thankful I had the opportunity to read this one.
