The cover is absolutely beautiful and the premise of the book intrigued me. Honestly the cover itself initially drew me to the book before I even knew what the book was about. The book consists of several short stories about various aspects of Chinese culture, politics, and lifestyle. The stories are set in several locations, primarily the USA and China, and do a great job of depicting the nuances of life from a familial and political perspective. I greatly enjoyed the first few stories; particularly those about the political and social struggles young adults fight against. The author did a beautiful job demonstrating the yearn for a better life, conflicting with the restrictions of communism. However some of the later stories lacked the passion the initial stories had, so I ended up giving 3/5 stars. Overall I would recommend this title.
