I'm hoping the sequel will tie it up for me.

wish I could say I loved this book, I really wanted to love this book, the cover gave me goosebumps, and had me thinking of all the gothic books I've read and loved.

While the writing was beautiful, at moments hauntingly beautiful, written in a way that just pulled me into this visualization of what was happening on the page, the descriptions of the house, the lake, the woods, even the corruption were all so very beautifully written, unfortunately it just wasn't the book for me.

Parts of it felt well thought out and written for the readers experience of what was happening with our main characters Rowan and Violeta, other parts felt like they were thrown in as an afterthought.

The story itself was interesting, it seemed like it would be a good introduction to fantasy for young adult readers, there were just enough paranormal aspects to make it a fantasy book without it being overwhelming, I just never got hooked by it and I wanted to, I tried to, I had told myself that I had to love this book, it had everything (except vampires) that I look for in fantasy books the story just missed the mark for me.

I do plan on reading the sequel when it comes out to see if some of the issues I had with this one will be resolved and maybe it was just setup for the continuation, maybe the second book will blow me away, it's happened before. I'm truly hoping that will be the case with this one.

If I could give this 3.5 stars I would.
