The first twenty six pages of Lakesedge, by Lyndall Clipstone, introduces the readers to the two main characters, LeVioletta (Leta) and Arien Graceling. They are siblings that were found on the road beside the Vair Woods thirteen years earlier by a woman who took them in and is raising them as her own. Arien is cursed with nightmares that occur when dark shadows enter his and Leta's room. Leta does her best to help her brother during the reoccurring nightmares. Their mother however, believes that these nightmares are caused by Lord Under who is trying to claim him.
In Chapter Two they find themselves in Greymere for tithe day. The Sylvanan family own all of the land in the valley, and the villagers are required to tithe to them. As the festivities begin, a girl in the crowd tells Leta and Arien that Lord Sylvanan will be in attendance. He is the son that is accused of murdering his family by drowning, shortly after the last tithe day six years earlier. What is true and what is false? Leta and Arien are about to find out!
