This book definitely has dark and spooky fantasy vibes right from the start, with a little bit of gothic vibes thrown into the mix. Content warning for physical and emotional child abuse. The main character and her younger brother have an abusive adoptive mother. Couldn’t get a good feel for the main character yet, apart from her dedication to protecting her younger brother.
