Not for me

The cover seems like a graphic novel than a novel. And it screams young reader. I am clearly not the demographic for this book. And I hate the term YA (it seems to be the catch-all for any book where the MC(s) are between 16 to 25) where the prose is watered-down and simplistic, which is the case here. Simplistic writing that felt like it was written for middle-grade instead of teens.

And so even though I will read YA, I am tired of reading about teen love. I guess I'm too old and too cynical. I also didn't care for the news articles and other random "documents" interjected before every chapter—this seems to be a new trend as a way to provide backstory. But it just felt like filler pages to me. This excerpt was 58 pages and 19 were these filler pages—that's more than 30% of the pages.

I'm happy to see more representation in books, but that's about the best I can say for this excerpt.
