I understand the hype behind this book. As far as unique and new characters, it was top notch. It was so refreshing to read about REAL people and not the "quirky, cute baker girl who falls in love with either the dirty-talking businessman or the charming-but-doesn't-know-it hometown boy." (And don't get me wrong, there is always a time and place for those romances as well).
I went into this only knowing that everyone seemed to rave about it. I didn't know the premise or the main characters or anything. It wasn't what I was expecting at all.
Stella is an exceptionally intelligent woman. She's kicking ass as an econometrist (I think that's right, but now I'm unsure). She's a woman in a high-powered position and she isn't sorry about it. She also has Asperbergers and isn't entirely sure how she's going to be in a relationship when physical touch mostly makes her body shut down. After another night of pressure from her parents to start a family, Stella comes up with a fool-proof plan. She's going to hire an escort. He can teach her all the how-tos of sex and she can take that knowledge with her to a long term relationship.
Enter, Michael Phan, reluctant escort, family guy, and talented tailor. There's a reason he's a 5-star rated escort though. He knows his way around the bedroom and leaves his customers satisfied. After the first appointment has been set, what unravels is a practice relationship and lessons in and out of the bedroom.
