This month for my book group, Novel Conversations, we are reading Romances. We get to pick the type of Romance. I find I tend to read romances when I'm working on my computer. There is, because I don't have a lightening fast internet connection, plenty of time as I wait for things to finish downloading to read a couple of pages at a time. For my selection, I picked this book.
This romance is a contemporary romance with a bit of spice. Our couple has problems. He is afraid that he is like his father, a cheating, womanizing, con-man who ran off and left his wife and six children behind. His mother has cancer with very little health insurance, so he works as an escort to pay those bills. She has Asperger's Syndrome, high-functioning autism, which makes her socially awkward and focused so that she doesn't respond in the way others expect in interpersonal relationships. She hires him to help her learn how to be in a relationship. Both of them think that they don't deserve the other one, even as they fall deeply in love. Isn't that always the way it goes. How that turns around makes this a charming story.
