Everyone I know has absolutely loved this book, and I think I have to come to terms that romance is a genre that just doesn't do it for me. I read this book and felt by the end fairly "meh" about it. That being said, I really did appreciate the relationship between Stella and Michael and how healthy it was portrayed. I think Helen Hoang did a truly fantastic job at writing the relationship. I also really enjoyed the scenes with Stella and Michael's family- I thought they were very well written and highlighted how Stella and Michael's relationship was continuously developing.

That all being said, what didn't work for me so much was the miscommunication" trope. It drives me crazy. I know that it is common in romance books as a whole genre but it does take some of the enjoyment out of the story for me. I think the majority of my own hesitations came with the fact that romance just doesn't sit right with me, sometimes it was cute and other times I was flipping the pages to see how far away the next chapter was. For that I can't fault the book.

In the end, I think if you are an avid lover of romance then you will love this book. It has great representation of a character with autism spectrum disorder and Asian American characters. This book is now a part of a series and while I probably won't continue on with it, I hope it does well because Helen Hoang is a talented writer!
