The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is another great romance written by an author that doesn't follow all the rules. Apparently no one told her that the man must always make more money than the woman. In this case the main female character (Stella) was very successful financially in her chosen career.
That he must also be better educated and if not at least more confident because Stella is smart and has a lot of education her confidence in what she does is high but just not with dating.
The author also chose to have a main male character that is a POC (he is half-Vietnamese) with a non-typical job of working in his mother’s dry cleaning business (pinning hems!), side hustling as a male escort and trying to become a fashion designer. I’ve never seen this combination of careers in a market saturated with books about CEOs.
And finally, Stella is on the autism spectrum (hence hiring a male escort to help her with the more romantic aspects of dating) and the author used her own experience being neuroatypical to create a well-rounded and relatable female MC.
This is a daring and sexy romance and I look forward to more from Helen Hoang.
