Romance is probably my second least read genre, but the ownvoices aspect of the book with an author with high functioning autism writing about a character with high functioning autism definitely intrigued me. She does such a great job capturing Stella’s voice in all the obsession, perseveration, overstimulation and general social anxiety. It’s important to recognize that women often exhibit very different symptoms than men, not just with autism, and reading the author’s note at the end and discovering how late in life she’d been diagnosed further demonstrated that. If this hasn’t been picked up for a movie deal yet, I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t.
