I love this book. Yes, it is a pretty typical romance. It follows the basic plot pattern. There are beautifully unique aspects though such as the Indian culture and heritage embedded throughout. Threaded through are also stories of immigration, cultural appreciation, divorce, gossiping and bullying. This is well written and just a quick enjoyable read. Highly recommend.

I would say that Ananya Devarajan is a writer to keep an eye on. She is quite skilled in writing YA characters that are believable but also with discussing and dealing with real life issues that young adults and adults face- whether that's ostracization by peers, pressure to succumb to family or social pressures, health issues, life/school/work stress, or even sibling love/hate relationships.

This story is just a fun read. Definitely worth checking out and the added benefit of learning more about other cultures through embedded honest portrayals.
