This book was an adventurous story about two queer black teen best friends in their final days before one of the boys takes off for college. It reminded me a lot of the silliness and grandeur of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and is perfect for anyone who is interested in Young Adult fiction.
There was a lot of joy in this book but there was also the story of what it's like to grow up black in the states. I love stories about friendship and the lengths the characters will go to be there to support each other. This story didn't feel tired or "done before", but instead was a fresh contemporary feel-good tale with a well developed plot and refreshing and dynamic characters who were likeable and well written.
R. Eric Thomas did an excellent job with representing diverse characters in many areas and bring attention to many issues teens face today. There is also some triggers in regards to racism and abandonment.
