This fantasy debut was absolutely wonderful. I loved every minute of reading it and cannot wait to continue on with the series and see what Nick Martell has in store for us and these characters next. This is the first book in the Legacy of the Mercenary Kings series and while it is the first book in the series, it stands strongly on its own. The world-building is pretty solid, we are not given too much information at one time which can sometimes be daunting and overwhelming. Instead, we are treated to the world and the story a little bit at a time, which makes the book much more intriguing and exciting. The main character, Michael Kingman, is complex and interesting and I really loved watching his story unfold!
