Along the way he must make deals with nobles, mercenaries and drug addicts in order get the answers that he needs. Doing all that he can to uncover all the secrets that lay in his path he uncovers more then he has bargained for. Some friends become enemies and some enemies become friends. In the end Michael relies only on himself to protect his family and the ones he cares for. Will this lead him to success or an early grave?
I really enjoyed Nick Martell’s debut novel The Kingdom of Liars. The web of secrets that are revealed at just the right moment sent shivers down my spine and I found myself reading this 594-page book in a little over 2 days. The writing is perfection and isn’t sloppy in many ways that I would expect from a first-time novel. I was very surprised with how many secrets the text contained that was only slightly hinted at. When the truth reveals itself, I found myself wondering how I ever missed it. This is definitely a book that would be interesting to re-read now that I know the truth.
I would be very excited to read a sequel to this book. I believe that some places and people could be elaborated in a sequel as well as Michael Kingman’s next steps as a mercenary. Will his family move back to Kingman’s keep? What will happen between him and his friend Tray? And will he ever get his revenge on the man who framed his father, the true killer of Davey Hallow?

Some quotes from the book that I enjoyed:
• “It was easier to crush every trace of rebellion than fix the problems that had started it.”
• “We’re all selfish monsters—the only difference is some of us are more honest about it than others.”
• “I don’t want blind to be my only label. It’s a part of me, but its not the only thing about me. I’m more than my disability.”
• “We love despite a person’s flaws, not for the lack thereof.”
