This book was written amazingly. It was a marvelous debut, full of truly wonderful world building and character development- most of the plot was so solidly constructed you could sail halfway across the world without a single leak. It was seamless. Every detail connected to another and there was truly a greater arching scheme to the whole book- the reveals and the twists and turns were believable and still not clichéd, the characters were solid and badass and reliably constructed, everyone had a motive, everyone had flaws and reasons.

The writing was impeccable. The pacing was also great, the characterisation solid.

Michael Kingman is a perfect narrator. Both blind to some things and yet tremendously clever, his struggle to not be forgotten and his obsession with his family's legacy was unique.

I loved the reveal where we find out that it was Michael's father who took his memories and that that was the reason he didn't remember his friends from before and also the reason for it- his father hadn't expected to die that day. Her expected to come back, to reverse what he'd done.

Michael's mother was also an enigma- hidden away from the world, Forgotten and then brought back in the best of ways.

Charles Domet is also quite an interesting character- his alcoholism, the whole immortality.

And Trey. I can't wait for his interactions with Michael.

One of my favourite characters perhaps is Dark. He was intriguing and I loved his role to play in the end getting Michael out of his execution.
I'm piqued by Angelo. The pickling was a nice touch, and the whole character was amazing.

Gwen was badass.

Some things I'm looking forward to in the next books:
1) finding out why Michael's mother didnt have her memories- and whether her husband had them taken away with his Darkness Fabrications (though I doubt that)
2) Figuring out why the princess is hidden in the castle and why her existence isn't revealed- she seemed sane enough and I smell a love interest 😉😈
3) seeing Lyon's kid and also finding out how he and Kayleigh met
4) more Sirash and Arjay.
5) meeting the mercenaries. Seriously can't wait for that.
6) more badass and stupid Michael Kingman decisions.

I would love to read any book written by this author. I will definitely read his other books.
