I’ll readily admit that the initial half of the excerpt did not have me especially hooked, but as we moved on from the courtroom scene I very much bought into the premise and setting. The last page sealed it for me: pieces of a moon falling onto cities, meanwhile the defense system being some kind of trebuchet acting like a Patriot Missile system. That type of detail is discworld-caliber funny.
