I was expecting a fantasy novel along the lines of "Fantastic Beasts," and this was ... to an extent. However, there was much more of a romance angle that I anticipated (or liked), especially as it was somewhat of an insta-romance. I really enjoyed the magical beasts elements, and I would've liked more of them. I'm not a huge fan of romance novels, so that angle could've been left out, or at least the larger focus could've been on the fantasy angle, and I would've likely enjoyed this more.
There were a few loose strings, so perhaps the author is planning a sequel. If there is one, I'm not sure that I'd pick it up. I wasn't left with a need to have everything tied up for me to be satisfied. I did find the cover to be quite eye-catching.
If you're looking for a great fantasy read, you may enjoy this, but you may want to look for more of a straight-forward fantasy book vs. this fantasy romance.
