This book is a must read for fans of Harry Potter who also appreciate a good old fashioned romance novel. The novel is set in a very colorful world full of a wide array of magical beasts that are tamed and kept by "charmers". Lena, the main character, is one of the charmers. A series of events causes an assassin to be hired to kill her. Noc, the assassin, has an interesting history that led him to be in this position. Lena is able to strike up a bargain to save her life. That bargain forces them to spend some time together and a tentative romance begins.
The book is engaging and I found myself not wanting to put it down. I wanted to know what happened next! My only small criticism is that there were so many magical beasts that I found myself struggling to keep them all straight in my head. Also, the romance parts could be a bit cheesy if you are not a fan of the romance genre.
