Juliet is a 19-year-old Puerto Rican lesbian from the Bronx who goes to be an intern for a hippy white feminist in Portland, and who also happens to have written Juliet's favorite book. This is a book about Juliet finding herself, understanding her place in the world, and embracing feminism. I loved the fact that Juliet's sexuality was not just a part of the book that arose and she dealt with and moved on. It was a central theme that we revisited time and again. She struggled with it, embraced it, brought it to the forefront, and put it on the back burner. Much like how people who have recently come out deal with the "fallout" Juliet worries a lot about her relationships with those who have known her the longest.
