This funny, joyful, impactful book is bursting with queer brown and black characters that leap off the page. I'm a sucker for a good summer coming-of-age story, and it's so easy to root for Juliet, who is insightful, frank, and loving. When she leaves her home of the Bronx to spend the summer in Portland, Oregon, she explores the complexities of queerness, feminism, and race. It's a book that lays out why intersectionality matters in a way that doesn't feel didactic. This book veers toward the "adult" end of the young adult spectrum - Juliet is college-aged and is grappling with ideas that those in their late teens and early twenties will be able to relate to - but as a nearly-thirty year old, I loved this book too, and want to press it into the hands of all of my friends to read as soon as they can.
