Juliet "is a self-proclaimed closeted Puerto Rican baby dyke from the Bronx," and an absolutely beautifully written, fully realized, lovely human being. She's getting ready to head off to Portland for an internship with her idol, Harlowe Brisbane, the author of the feminist manifesto Raging Flower, but first she decides to come out to her family. It doesn't completely go as she hoped, but her mother hasn't stopped loving her, so that's something for her to take with her. Juliet is on a mission of self discovery, learning about the LGBTQ+ community and all the politics that go along with that, learning along the way that her white idol, Harlowe, may not be all she was hoping for. Along the way we get to travel along with Juliet as she figures out who she is, what she wants out of life, and who she chooses to allow into her heart, who she considers worthy. If you're writing a review and your tetchy about how white feminists are talked about in this book, you need to check yourself and ask why it makes you uncomfortable. You sound like a bunch of #notallmen'ers. This book isn't really for us, but I'm still glad that I got a chance to grow with Juliet. Truly lovely read.
