I have never read anything like Juliet Takes A Breath. Im having trouble putting into words just how I feel about this book.

Juliet Milagros Palante is a self proclaimed Puerto Rican baby dyke from the Bronx. After coming out to her family the night before flying to Portland, Oregon to intern for her favorite feminist author. Juliet knows her life has forever changed.

But Juliet has a plan - sort of. She will intern with Harlow Brisbane the ultimate authority on feminism and other gay sounding stuff and she is sure to figure out this whole Puerto Rican lesbian thing.

I liked this book but it was a rocky star. The first 3 chapters were an experience and I was sure I was going to hate this book but Juliet won me over.

This book isn't for everyone and I can see this book being intensely polarizing. But I came to really enjoy just how comfortable in its skin this book was. Its super pretentious and at times preachy but I was as annoyed by that as I might normally be, because the writing was so superb.

Juliet Takes a Breath is a fun, breathtaking and wholely original novel.
