The story takes place right after the family patriarch dies. He leaves behind his biological adult daughter, Maya, his 2nd wife Jeanie, (not Maya's mom, Maya's mom died when she was 5) and Jeanie's teenage Daughter Ryder. Maya and Jeanie do NOT get along at all, but Ryder gets along great with both of them.
The Death of the family patriarch brings out the worst in the 3 girls. Jeanie starts to drink, Maya becomes aggressive and Ryder acts out. And as the story goes on you get each of their perspectives on how they are feeling, along with them trying to continue with their lives (and hiding how they are feeling because they can't communicate!). in getting each of their perspectives, my initial favorite was Ryder. She seamed the most relatable of the 3. I liked Maya, but hated Jeanie. By the end of the story my favorite character was Jeanie! She had the most character growth, and made a friend along the way. And honestly if their was to be a sequel to this book I would hope for it to be about her!
