When Judge Donaldson passes away, he leaves his estate to his daughter Maya. But one of the stipulations is that her step mother, Jeanie and her daughter can live there until Ryder graduates. Maya and Jeanie don’t see eye to eye and they are not happy with the situation considering the only they had in common was the Judge.

They are all hurting and they all act out in ways they shouldn’t due to grief. All three of the women must realize that grief is something you can’t go through alone and it’s much easier to have a shoulder to lean on.

I found the characters very real! I liked that I could relate to where they were coming from. Maya was so good, and I loved her personality. She always said it like it was, and that is often what people need to hear, even when it hurts. And when she was able to be honest with herself, you could feel that turning point. I would highly recommend this one! It deals with some tough issues like losing someone and alcoholism but it is well worth the read.
