This story begins with the loss of a father of two daughters. One (Maya) is his biological older daughter that is a lawyer looking to make partner. The second (Ryder) is a step daughter is his 17 year old strep daughter. There's conflict between the Maya and her step mother. Ryder is dealing with an alcoholic mother deep in grief.
I liked the characters a lot and sympathized with them. The story kept me reading. Dealing with grief is so challenging and watching the characters struggle with how to move on with their lives is something everyone will have to go through at some point. I'd love to see how Maya and Ryder handle it.
