There will be spoilers below just to be warned!
I feel like I am going to be in a very small percentage of people who loved this book. I'm a sucker for "Little Women"; it's my favorite classic and Jo March is near and dear to my heart. No Jo March in "Little Women" did not end up with Laurie. In fact Alcott swore up and down she would never marry the two. The Jo March in this book is different from the Jo March in "Little Women"; this is also a RETELLING! The authors are trying something new! For years and years I shipped Jo and Laurie together. I threw my book when Jo proposed to Laurie and she refused him. Years later I grew up and realized that Jo wanted to be alone and truly didn't want to get married. Alcott was pretty much forced to marry off Jo. That Jo I don't think should have been married, but this Jo is a different Jo.
Jo March has just published "Little Women" a fictional tale based on the lives of her and her three sisters. Spoiler, Beth is still dead in this book. That broke my heart, I was hoping that Beth would have lived. Like the Beth in "Little Women" the "real" Beth dies of scarlet fever. Her loss is felt by all of the sisters. Meg has a crush on Mr. Brooke, but the two have barely spoken in their lives. Seeing their romance unfold was one of my favorite parts of this novel. Jo was still independent, but independent women can be loved and deserve to be loved. I loved Jo and Laurie's friendship and I enjoyed seeing her get jealous of other girls. Speaking of other girls- I personally didn't like Harriet. I like that Amy wasn't an obstacle in the book (They almost killed her off though! That was something I didn't see coming). Harriet I found to be annoying and she kept calling Jo and Meg "Cousin". Some people said that Harriet reminded them of Jo, but I didn't see it.
Overall I think people need to get over the fact that this isn't what Alcott wanted. This is a different Jo and is a retelling. I can root for one Jo to be single and independent and another Jo to end up with Laurie. Personally I felt like I was allowed to have my cake and eat it to with this novel!
