Co-authors Margaret Stohl & Melissa de la Cruz accomplish a lot in 'Jo & Laurie: A Romantic Retelling'! Their book is, in many ways, a love letter to the original text and author Louisa May Alcott; the story interweaves a close reading of 'Little Women' with biographical research about Alcott. As a result, 'Jo & Laurie' engages many of the themes of 'Little Women'. The love we hold for our families, and for our romantic partners. The demands of money and social class. The drive to create - to draw, to compose music, to write.

Jo's identity and experiences as a writer are my favorite parts of the book. It's awesome to see her interact with her publisher, struggle with the creative process, find her voice.

Thank you to Margaret Stohl & Melissa de la Cruz, Putnam (Penguin Random House) and Bookish First for my copy.
