This book was already on my radar, and I was expecting it to be a somewhat sacrilegious Little Women rewrite. And while it still is that, it turns out that instead of rewriting Little Women, it's trying to occupy an odd third space between not being about Louisa May Alcott and not being about Jo March, but instead being about some sort of other Jo, who is an amalgamation of both Louisa and Jo. Does this mean that this Jo should be even gayer than in Little Women? Yes, the answer is yes. Obviously she's not, which makes this still somewhat sacrilegious, but I will give it points for trying to not be a strange rewrite of Little Women.
