When I first attempted to read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, I truthfully could not go through with it. I knew what it was about because I had seen the 1994 adaptation, and more recently the 2019 adaptation. But for some reason there was a mental block stopping me from even crossing the literary thresholds of the story. These thresholds were chapters, and to this day I have never fully read Little Women. A secret that I have regrettably held in my heart.

In Jo & Laurie, I have a sense of familiarity in Melissa de la Cruz. I have always admired her writing style and find myself sucked into the encompassing vortex that is the relationship between Jo and Laurie.

As much as I’ve read, this story describes their relationship nearly perfect, and to me, I’ve always wished the two together. So maybe, because of the writing at the bottom of the cover, it will become a twist of fate with this “romantic retelling”!
