Just Meh.

The first chapter jumps into the life of Luis, our leading man. It describes his career as a firefighter, his recent time off, and his family's dynamic. Not a bad way to introduce the story, right? That's what I assumed... but moving onto chapter two, our leading lady, Sara is introduced and literally the entirety of that chapter is them talking in a parking lot. I felt like I got decent information about who Sara is, but there was a strong disconnect with the two as they were conversing. With how quickly the story moved to, "Hey! Wanna be my fake boyfriend?" there needed to be more interaction between Sara and Luis outside the airport parking lot. And, why make Sara so desperate to please her family? Just meh.

Once I pushed through the first few chapters, the flow of writing was able to hold my attention and I found the story overall enjoyable, even if drab at some points. If you're willing to overlook the few odd plot choices, Island Affair is a cute, fun read.
