Beautifully written but lacked cohesion
Linda LeGarde Grover's writing is beautiful, sometimes poetic, in this story of two Native American girls. I have not read many Native American stories or books set in Minnesota, so I was excited to see In the Night of Memory on BookishFirst. I learned a lot about the experiences of a Native American family in this book, and my heart broke for the difficult childhoods of Azure and Rain. Unfortunately, I found a lack of cohesion in the book as it alternated from character to character. I lost track of how each person was related, and wished there was a family tree for reference. I felt like I understood tiny pieces, when the story would have benefitted for being more tightly binded. I appreciate the opportunity to read this book and ultimately, still enjoyed the read.
