What a heartbreaking beginning to a book! Loretta mentions going to a hospital and getting her girls back after treatment but doesn't say why she needs treatment. I'm assuming alcoholism from the way wine was written about when the girls were picked up by the cab. But the girls never do see their mother again and I want to know why. Is she alive? Did she get treatment? Did she not want them? I love the writing and I can't wait to read more.
